Tanzania Treks & Safaris

Tanzania brings together two of Africa’s great travel experiences: world-class wildlife safaris and some of the continent’s most rewarding trekking.

From wide open savannahs to high volcanic peaks, journeys here are shaped by scale, movement and immersion.

On safari, Tanzania’s national parks offer exceptional wildlife viewing in vast, unfenced landscapes. Time in the Serengeti reveals the rhythms of the plains and the great annual migration, while a descent into the Ngorongoro Crater offers a concentrated glimpse of Africa’s iconic wildlife within a dramatic natural amphitheatre.

These environments allow animals to move freely and encounters to unfold at a natural pace.

For trekkers, Mount Kilimanjaro stands as a defining challenge. Walking to the summit of Africa’s highest peak is a journey through changing ecosystems, requiring careful pacing, acclimatisation and preparation - and rewarding those who take the slow, steady approach.

A visit to Zanzibar offers contrast and recovery, with coastal landscapes and Swahili culture providing a gentle conclusion to an active adventure.

Explore our Tanzania treks and safaris and experience a destination where wildlife, walking and iconic landscapes combine for a memorable adventure travel experience.

The best time to travel to Tanzania for wildlife viewing, hiking and adventure touring is generally June to October, when drier conditions make exploring national parks and mountain regions more comfortable.

Tanzania has a tropical climate influenced by altitude and coastal weather patterns. Temperatures typically range between 15°C and 30°C (59°F–86°F).

The rainy seasons bring lush green landscapes across the savannah and highlands. This time offers vibrant scenery, birdlife and quieter travel experiences.

Swahili is the official and primary language of Tanzania and Zanzibar, and is also the lingua franca of central and eastern Africa. English is also an official language and common in commerce, administration and tertiary education. Arabic is spoken in Zanzibar and along the Muslim coast, with many local languages also spoken throughout the country. Attempting a few Swahili greetings and phrases will earn you lots of smiles!

Tanzanian Shilling (divided into cents)

US dollars cash are by far the easiest foreign currency to exchange in Tanzania. It can either be changed to T-shillings, or used directly (but often at a lower rate). We recommend you only take US$ notes from 2006 or newer, and with the new large-head design. Older or torn notes are not accepted in Tanzania.

Euro can also be changed in many places. However the rate is not always as good.

In Tanzania credit cards are becoming more useful and the quite a few hotels now take payment by credit cards. Please be aware identity theft is common so please be careful when using them for payment, and never allow your credit card to be out of your sight at all times.

There are only a few ATM machines in major cities that are connected internationally and reliability is not guaranteed.
