Armenia Walks & Tours

Armenia is a destination best discovered on foot, where walking routes link ancient monasteries, mountain landscapes and long-settled valleys at the crossroads of Europe and Asia.

Often overlooked, it rewards travellers who enjoy cultural depth, scenery and a slower, more immersive pace.

Our adventures in Armenia move through a surprisingly varied landscape. Trails wind across rolling valleys, dramatic gorges and forested hills, and into the mountains of the Lesser Caucasus, where highland scenery and rural life remain closely connected.

Along the way, centuries of history are never far away, with monasteries, churches and fortresses appearing naturally within the landscape rather than as isolated sights.

Armenia is often described as an open-air museum, with thousands of historical monuments scattered across the countryside. Walks to UNESCO-listed monasteries such as Sanahin and Haghpat reveal some of the finest examples of medieval Christian architecture, set against expansive mountain backdrops that invite time and reflection.

Cultural exploration adds balance to the walking. In Yerevan, tree-lined boulevards, museums and cafés offer insight into Armenia’s contemporary life, while visits to its renowned manuscript collections provide a window into the country’s long intellectual and spiritual traditions.

Explore our Armenia walks and tours and discover some of the Caucasus’ true paths less travelled.

Activity in the town of Yerevan

The best time to travel to Armenia for hiking, trekking and adventure touring is generally May–Jun and Sep–Oct, when temperatures are comfortable and conditions are favourable for exploring landscapes, national parks and cultural highlights.

Armenia has a continental climate with warm summers and cold winters. Temperatures typically range between -5°C and 30°C (23°F–86°F) depending on the season.

Travelling outside the main season can still be rewarding, with quieter trails, seasonal landscapes and unique experiences depending on rainfall, wildlife activity or snow conditions.
