Azerbaijan Adventures

Azerbaijan sits at the meeting point of Europe and Asia, where ancient trade routes, layered cultures and varied landscapes come together in a destination still little visited by Western travellers.

Exploring here offers a sense of discovery, shaped by history, architecture and a pace of travel that allows time to absorb the contrasts.

Along the shores of the Caspian Sea, the capital Baku provides a striking introduction. Modern architecture rises beside a UNESCO-listed medieval old town, where narrow lanes, mosques and stone walls reflect centuries of influence from Persian, Arab, Ottoman and Russian cultures. Walking through the Old City reveals how these histories overlap rather than replace one another.

Beyond the capital, Azerbaijan’s landscapes open out. In the semi-desert interior, Gobustan preserves one of the region’s most significant cultural sites, with ancient rock art and archaeological remains that trace human presence back tens of thousands of years. Further west, the scenery shifts as the foothills of the Greater Caucasus give way to forests, rivers and historic towns.

In Sheki, once an important stop on the Silk Road, restored caravanserais, merchant houses and the ornate Palace of the Sheki Khans reflect the wealth and connections of past trading eras. Time here offers a quieter, more intimate perspective on Azerbaijan’s heritage and everyday life.

Explore our Azerbaijan tours and discover a rewarding cultural adventure found along some of the region’s true paths less travelled.
