Uganda Treks & Tours

Uganda has long been called the Pearl of Africa - and for travellers seeking authentic adventure, it’s easy to see why. With volcanic mountains, wildlife-filled savannahs, misty forests and some of the friendliest people in East Africa, Uganda offers more than just scenery. It’s a land made for trekking, discovery and exploration.

Uganda combines classic African safari with unique trekking experiences you won’t find elsewhere. On our Uganda tours you can track mountain gorillas through the dense montane forests of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, search Kibale Forest for chimpanzees and other rare primates, and watch elephants, lions, hippos and more on game drives in Queen Elizabeth National Park.

For those seeking active exploration, our Uganda adventures take you off the beaten path. Trek through rainforest alive with monkeys and birdlife, cross remote alpine valleys, and follow glacier-fed rivers high into the Rwenzori Mountains. Here, in the so-called Mountains of the Moon, you can test yourself with a demanding climb to Margherita Peak (5109m / 16,763ft) - Africa’s third highest mountain and one of the continent’s most exhilarating trekking challenges.

Uganda’s wild beauty is matched only by the resilience and warmth of its people. Despite a challenging past, today the country is welcoming, safe and rewarding to visit. Whether it’s spotting rhinos on foot at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, cruising along the Nile to the thundering Murchison Falls, or camping under the stars on a remote mountain trek, our carefully crafted itineraries are designed to immerse you in the landscapes, wildlife and culture of this remarkable destination.

From wildlife safaris to multi-day treks, Uganda has the perfect balance of challenge and discovery. Take a look at our unique itineraries and start planning your unforgettable Uganda adventure today.

Although close to the equator, Uganda’s mostly tropical climate is not uniform across the country due to its varying topography.

Southern Uganda is wettest with the Rwenzori Mountains (in the south west) receiving heavy rainfall all year. Entebbe and Kampala have a wet season from March to June and again in November/December.

Kampala and Entebbe tend to be quite humid, being situated on the shore of Lake Victoria. Temperatures range from about 25-30°C during the day to 14-16°C at night but can feel quite a bit warmer due to the humidity. In the mountains, you can expect much cooler temperatures.

PLEASE NOTE: we suggest you pack a waterproof jacket with a hood at all times of the year.

Ugandan Shilling

US dollars cash are by far the easiest foreign currency to exchange in East Africa. It can either be changed to USh or used directly (but often at a lower rate).

We recommend you only take USD notes from 2006 or newer. Older or torn notes are not accepted in Uganda.

There are only a few ATM machines in major cities that are connected internationally and reliability is not guaranteed.

Credit cards are of very little use in Uganda outside of Kampala and Entebbe. Expect high merchant fees.
