Writer Catherine Eade joins us on an active adventure holiday in Sri Lanka. Her article in the Daily Mail, online available now, is an inspiring account of her journey that truly drags you into the teardrop-shaped island. Now that she has reached 40, she prefers a bit more comfort in her travels, but still would like to indulge in a sense of adventure.

Far from feeling like I’m being processed as part of a ‘tour’, I feel as though I am travelling independently with a group of friends - albeit with a strong safety net around us.

Read her article that starts with waking up at 1am to climb all 5200 steps to Sri Lanka's most holy mountain, and takes you further to different ways of admiring elephants, ancient ruined cities, temples and tea plantations. This is armchair travel at some of its best.
