Back in spring 2012, The Guardian writer Sam Wollaston joined our Gokyo & the Renjo La trip to discover the Everest region on his own account. Ninety years earlier, his grandfather AFR Wollaston is a member of the first-ever Everest expedition.

In his online article 'Everest, the granddaddy of walking adventures' he gives an entertaining description of the differences of that first expedition and his own experiences.
