Overview

The Yuraygir National Park is the largest coastal park in New South Wales and one of the most diverse bioregions in the country. From age-old coastal landforms, littoral rainforest, eucalypt forest, woodland and wetlands, you can see it all in Yuraygir National Park. The National Park is home to the stunning Yuraygir Coastal Track which follows the footsteps of the ancient coastal emus that once thrived in the park.

We walk southwards taking in the sweeping and ever-changing views. The park is home to an abundance of Australian native wildlife. As you walk keep an eye out for kangaroos, white-bellied sea eagles, yellow-tailed black cockatoos, emus and whales. Carrying only a day pack, you'll walk along pristine beaches, cross creeks and rock hop across multiple small and remote beaches. Each night you will stay in beautifully appointed and comfortable canvas tents with real mattress beds, organic cotton sheets and cosy quilts. With one river to cross by boat, deserted beaches and spectacular headlands to discover, your guide will take you on an adventure to remember.

This morning you will be picked up from Yamba at around 9am for the short drive to Angourie where the walk will commence at 9:30am. Here you will meet with your guides for a trip briefing. Then you'll head down Angourie Beach to Durrangan Lookout for the first of many whale watching opportunities. Continuing on to Shelley Beach you will transverse huge sand dunes and springwater creeks. This afternoon you will arrive at the beautiful Lake Aragon and your perfectly set-up camp just in time for afternoon tea and cakes. Settle into your well-appointed eco tent accommodation before dinner is served around the campfire. Walking distance: 13km, 4-5 hours. *You will need to bring your own lunch for today. We recommend purchasing something in Yamba before your pick up this morning.

Meals: D

After a delicious breakfast and some early morning sightings of east grey kangaroos around camp, your guides will pack a sumptuous lunch and you will start the walk towards Red Cliff and beyond. The walk today takes in sweeping stretches of golden beaches and protected woodlands of paperbarks. In the afternoon you will arrive at Sandon River, with time to explore Plover Island, a place of great cultural significance to the Yaegl people. Walking distance: 13km, 4-5 hours.

Today's walk starts with a river crossing and then the longest beach section of the trip which takes you along Sandon Beach towards Illaroo Campground. Halfway through the day you'll join the back trail through the woodlands where your guides will unpack for a picnic lunch. Continuing on to Illaroo Campgrpound you'll arrive at camp for the night. Spend the evening relaxing around the campfire while the guides prepare a delicious dinner. Walking distance: 11km, 3-4 hours.

Meals: B,L,D

After another warm and comfortable night sleep, our chefs will prepare a tasty breakfast with locally sourced produce and Byron Bay grown coffee beans. If you're an early riser today is a great opportunity to get up early and watch the sunrise over the ocean. From Illaroo the walk today meanders through the paperbarks where you may spot an emu. Our lunch stop will be at Minnie Waters before an afternoon of exploring the coves, mangroves and marine life around Wilsons Head. The elevated campground at Boorkoom awaits with expansive ocean views. Walking distance: 9km, 3-4 hours.

Meals: B,L,D

On the walk today from Wilsons Head there are plenty of viewing opportunities to take in the expansive Pacific Ocean. You will trek over the headland, heading towards the inland spring-fed waterways for a midday swim and one final picnic. After lunch you continue on to the Wooli breakwater and the end of our trip. You will be transported back to your accommodation in Yamba this afternoon where the trip concludes, usually arriving back at your hotel just after 5pm.
