On 16 August 2024, a sudden Glacial Lake Outburst Flood (GLOF) occurred in the upper Thame River watershed, near Tashi?Lapcha Pass in Nepal's Solukhumbu region. It began when two Thyanbo glacial lakes, each about 0.05?km², ruptured around 13:30?NST, triggered by a landslide into the upper lake, which caused it to overflow and breach the lower moraine dam. The flood carried a torrent of water, debris, and mud, devastating Thame village, destroying at least 14 properties, including a school, health clinic, five lodges, and seven homes. It swept through half of the settlement, covering it in muck and debris and displaced 135 people, including about 40 children; no fatalities were reported, as many had evacuated or been elsewhere.
