On arrival at Tocumen International Airport, you’ll be met by a local representative and transferred by private vehicle to your accommodation in Panama City. Check in to your Deluxe Room at Hotel Central for the first of three nights. Built nearly 150 years ago and facing the iconic Plaza de la Independencia in Casco Antiguo (Panama’s UNESCO-listed Old Town), the hotel blends colonial charm with contemporary comfort. You'll be staying in the heart of the city's cultural and historical centre, with cobblestone streets, museums, cafes, and cathedrals just steps away. Overnight: Hotel Central, or similar Activity: Arrival transfer – 45 mins by private vehicle

Meals: Nil

This morning, we depart early from the hotel and head east into the tropical interior for a journey into Panama’s colonial past. After a 45-minute drive (approx. 32 km / 20 mi), we enter Soberanía National Park, a vast rainforest reserve home to some of the country’s most iconic flora and fauna. Today, we walk a section of the Camino de Cruces (Las Cruces Trail) – a historic cobblestone route once used by the Spanish to transport gold from the Pacific to the Caribbean. The hike covers approximately 8 km / 5 mi and is considered moderate. Terrain is often muddy, uneven, and at times slippery, especially near creek crossings and stone sections of the original trail. Expect the walk to take 6–7 hours, including interpretive stops and breaks. Wildlife sightings may include monkeys, toucans, sloths, and numerous butterfly and bird species. Historical remnants such as stone markers and transport cuttings provide a glimpse into Panama’s strategic role in global trade centuries ago. Note: a change of clothes/shoes recommended for after the hike. Overnight: Hotel Central, or similar Activity: Drive 45 mins each way; Hike approx. 8 km / 5 mi, 6–7 hrs; Elevation + 227 m / 745 ft

Rise early for a truly immersive cultural experience deep within Panama’s lush rainforest. After hotel pickup, we drive northeast to El Corotú, located on the forested shores of Madden Lake – gateway to the Chagres National Park. From here, we board a motorised piragua (traditional dugout canoe) and travel upriver through dense jungle, following the Chagres River. The journey itself is a highlight, keep your eyes open for herons, kingfishers, and iguanas along the riverbanks. Our destination is a remote Embera Indigenous village, where you'll be welcomed with music and traditional dance. During your visit, you'll learn about Embera customs, storytelling, and their deep connection to the natural environment. There’s also time to view and purchase beautifully crafted items like woven baskets, masks, and carvings. Many made from sustainably sourced rainforest materials. A traditional Embera-style lunch is included, often featuring fresh fish wrapped in banana leaves and plantains, simple, delicious, and true to the community’s culinary heritage. Later in the afternoon, we return by canoe and vehicle to Panama City. Overnight: Hotel Central, or similar Activity: Drive 1.5 hrs return; Canoe journey approx. 45 mins each way; Village visit 3–4 hrs
