Continue east to Lombok for the main challenge: a multi-day trek on Mount Rinjani (3,726m/12,224ft), Indonesia’s second highest volcano. Upon arrival today you will be met at the airport with a transfer to your hotel. Your guide will provide a trip briefing and answer any questions you may have. Ubud is Bali’s artistic heart and the center of cultural events. Surrounded by a beautiful landscape it is easy to see where the artists find inspiration. For those wishing to know more about Balinese art, a visit to one of the local museums would be a great way to spend the remainder of the day. Cultural events such as ceremonies, dances and temple festivals occur frequently and you are always very welcome to observe. Ubud has many good restaurants where visitors can savour a wide range from simple Balinese food to sophisticated European dishes. Overnight: Meruhdani or similar

Meals: Nil

This morning after breakfast we'll venture on bikes to explore the area surrounding Ubud. Pick up time is 08:00 AM (please be ready at the lobby of the hotel). Following small rural roads, bicycles are the perfect way to experience this area. There will be many opportunities to stop along the way to learn about the local customs and lifestyles, your guide will be happy to explain their culture. After a couple of hours riding, you will have the option to ride on for another hour or jump in the vehicle and drive to the lunch spot. A delicious traditional Balinese lunch will be served in a small local restaurant set among the rice-fields. After enjoying lunch and a rest, you will then be driven back to your hotel in Ubud in the late afternoon to enjoy the remainder of the day at leisure. Overnight: Meruhdani Hotel or similar

Meals: B,L

Meet your local guide in the hotel lobby at 8.30am this morning and set out on a unique journey into the cultural and natural heartland surrounding Ubud. Today’s walk takes you beyond the town centre, through peaceful villages and scenic rice terraces, offering insight into daily life and the deep-rooted traditions of the Balinese people. Along the way, visit a number of small Hindu temples nestled in the landscape – places of quiet devotion that reflect the island’s spiritual heritage. Pause for a refreshing drink of young coconut, before enjoying a traditional Balinese lunch at Savannah Moon Restaurant, known for its welcoming atmosphere and locally inspired menu Overnight: Meruhdani Hotel or similar

Meals: B,L

You’ll be picked up early this morning at 6:00am and transferred to a panoramic lookout point near Mt Batur. Here, you’ll enjoy a light breakfast while watching the sun rise over the volcanic landscape – a breathtaking view that includes Lake Batur, the vast caldera, and on clear days, the distant peaks of Lombok. Around 8:00am, begin your trek. The trail starts gently, winding through local farmland where tomatoes and onions are cultivated, before the ascent steepens through volcanic ash and loose rock. Reaching the main crater rim, take a well-earned break and enjoy coffee with sweeping views of the lake and caldera. From here, you can explore nearby fumaroles and caves, and possibly spot the resident monkeys that live inside the crater. Those keen to reach the summit can continue another 40 minutes uphill, climbing through shifting volcanic sand to stand on Mt Batur’s highest point. The descent takes longer and can be a little technical in places, but our experienced local guide will ensure a safe and steady pace. Return to the lookout point around midday for a well-deserved local lunch before transferring back to your hotel. Overnight: Meruhdani Hotel or similar

Meals: B,L

This morning, you’ll be transferred to Padang Bai to board the fast boat to Lombok. Pick-up is scheduled between 7:00–7:30am. After crossing the Lombok Strait, you’ll be met on arrival and continue by road to Sembalun, a village nestled in the highlands of eastern Lombok. Sembalun is one of the two main gateway villages for treks to Mount Rinjani, but the area is much more than a staging point. Surrounded by dramatic ridgelines and sweeping rice paddy valleys, this region offers striking natural beauty and a cool mountain climate – perfect for acclimatising ahead of the trek. Overnight: Villa Ara Sembalun or similar

Meals: B

You'll be picked up this morning at 8:00am and transferred to the Rinjani Information Centre (RIC) in Sembalun Lawang (1156m / 3793ft), where all trekkers must register. Here, you'll visit the local Volcanology Centre to view the seismograph and learn about Mt Rinjani’s volcanic history – including how Lake Segara Anak and the caldera were formed. A pre-trek briefing covers route details, safety protocols, environmental care (especially rubbish management), and cultural traditions linked to this sacred peak. The trek begins with a gradual ascent through wide grasslands, used by local farmers to graze cattle. After approximately 3 hours, reach Pos 2 Tengengean (1500m / 4921ft), a rest point with sweeping views of Rinjani’s summit. From here, a steep 3.5-hour climb brings us to our camp on the crater rim at 2639m / 8658ft. As you gain altitude, the landscape shifts to pine-like Casuarina trees, and you may spot wild pigs or macaques along the way. Camp is set on the rim with dramatic views into the caldera and across to the summit. Overnight: Tented camp (2,639m/8,658 ft)

Meals: B,L,D

Today begins very early with a light breakfast at 1:30–2:00am, followed by a 2:00am departure for the summit push. The trail climbs steeply over volcanic scree and loose rock. The ascent is demanding, gaining over 1000 metres in just 4km (2.5mi), and takes approximately 6 hours. Reaching the summit of Mt Rinjani (3726m / 12,224ft) at sunrise is a spectacular experience. Weather permitting, you'll witness panoramic views across the caldera, down to Lake Segara Anak, and as far as Bali and Lombok’s coastline. After soaking in the views, descend to the crater rim where a second, hearty breakfast awaits (around 10:00–11:00am). After a short rest, continue the descent into the caldera – a steep but scenic 3-hour walk to Lake Segara Anak, nestled at 2000m (6562ft). Lunch is served at the lake around 1:00–2:00pm. The rest of the afternoon is free to relax, swim in the lake, or visit the nearby hot springs, believed by locals to have healing properties. Tonight’s camp is set beside the lake, under the towering walls of the crater. Overnight: Tented camp, 2,004m (6,575ft)

Meals: B,L,D

After breakfast, we start a three-hour steep climb to Plawangan 1 Senaru crater rim (2,461m, 8,074ft). You will find edelweiss along the path and enjoy the view of the lake from the other side. From the crater rim you will have amazing views over Bali and over the Segara Anak. We start the descent to Senaru village through grassland and tropical rainforest. The trek concludes at the Rinjani Trekking Centre in Senaru, approximately seven hours from the rim. Upon arrival in Senaru the driver is waiting for you and will drop you to the harbour (approx 2hrs, 87km, 54 mi drive) where you will board the local boat to Gili Air (30-45mins). Overnight: Royal Regantris Villa Karang or similar

Meals: B,L

Enjoy a full day to relax and unwind on Gili Air, the most tranquil of the Gili Islands. Swim in the warm waters, stroll along palm-fringed beaches, or take advantage of the hotel’s refreshing pool. The island’s car-free charm and slow pace make it the perfect place to recharge after the trek. Overnight: Royal Regantris Villa Karang or similar

Meals: B

This morning, board a local boat for the 45-minute crossing from Gili Air to Teluk Kodek on the Lombok mainland. From here, travel by private vehicle through coastal and inland scenery to Lombok International Airport – a drive of approximately 1.5 to 2 hours (60km).
